Outrageous, ingenious and indomitable, Mrs Cornelys enjoyed immense wealth and success during her lifetime. She came to London in 1759 aged 36, a Venetian-born opera singer and mother of Casanova's child. Imprisoned for bankruptcy, she bounced back, eventually dying of cancer in 1797.
